CONTACTLESS MEASUREMENT OF COMPRESSION STOCKINGS IN TIMES OF COVID 19

LEGREADER XT5 HELPS WITH MEASUREMENT

By Jutta Schreiber-Lenz

Solingen. It only takes a few seconds for the Legreader XT5 to record the customer’s measurements: Instead of laborious handling of a tape measure, pen and pad, all that is required is a short time spent standing on the specified markings for the feet on

the device that can be used to take measurements for compression stockings. Viola Heuser, an employee at Foullon's medical supply store, is enthusiastic about the device: "Apart from the fact that the time required to measure leg lengths and circumferences at different points is now much less, the device also provides more reliable and accurate values," she says.

In addition, a click of a button is enough to create a prescription for the respective patient the next time - because the customer data is stored there. "As a rule, new stockings are prescribed every six months," says Managing Director Joachim von Foullon.

With regard to the pandemic, he sees an additional, very important advantage of this measuring method: "This means we no longer need to touch the customer, but can maintain a reasonable distance of 1.5 meters. Physical contact is only necessary when trying on the tights or knee socks calculated by the leg reader - so the bottom line is that this is an optimization of 50 percent."

As a rule, the specialist store's inventory offers enough choice: "We rarely have to order matching stockings first; the patient can take their new stockings home with them straight away," says Viola Heuser. Color variations are also possible: In addition to the classic skin-colored stocking, a colorful palette of options is available, including bolder colors such as pink or turquoise. "However, most customers, mostly older ones, choose dark colors such as black or blue."

Digital measurement using infrared technology has been used for a long time in the manufacture of insoles and the foot measurements required for this," says von Foullon. "Now it is also available for stockings."

He also adds that it is important to note that pregnant women who have been prescribed compression stockings can also benefit from the Legreader without any problems. "There is no dangerous radiation or anything like that, infrared is completely harmless."
